In my local paper today, I saw some numbers from an ARG poll. Question: If Dean is the Democratic nominee for president, would you vote for Bush or Dean?
- % Bush
- % Dean
- % Undecided
Question: Bush v. Generic Dem
- % Bush
- % Dem
- % Undecided
- respondents, 5% MOE
Now, a few caveats are in order:
First, I have serious doubts about Dean (but would easily vote for him in the general if it comes to that) and this poll would suppoort my belief that Dean would have a very hard time in the general.
Second, I think ARG polls are crap. So, I don't take the results seriously at all without other poll support.
Third, I think national polls, and in particular head to head polls, are garbage at this stage. However, this is a head to head in a specific state which is engaged in the political process at this time and is likely to be a battleground state.
That being said I have the following question: kos seems perfectly happy quoting ARG polls and accepts their results without comment on methodology. Why hasn't this one appeared on the main page?
